Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking funded projects are already delivering concrete results for Europe’s green and competitive future. As highlighted in the latest CBE JU infographic, circular bio-based solutions support key EU priorities by reducing dependence on fossil-based inputs, strengthening industrial innovation, empowering SMEs and start-ups, and creating new opportunities for citizens, businesses, regions and primary producers.
Since 2014, CBE JU has supported 220 projects, 1,700 organisations across 45 countries, 19 pioneering flagship biorefineries and 154 demonstration plants. These results underline the importance of collaboration between research, industry and regional stakeholders in bringing bio-based innovation from lab to market.

The infographic also highlights why CBE JU matters: it helps de-risk investment in innovative industrial projects, supports the scale-up of bio-based solutions from lab to market, and enables SMEs and start-ups to actively participate in Europe’s bio-based transition. At the same time, it contributes to stronger local economies, new skills and jobs in rural and coastal areas, improved product performance, and more resilient European value chains.
RUNFASTER4EU is proud to be part of this dynamic ecosystem. The project contributes to CBE JU’s vision by demonstrating the sustainability and replicability of a new value chain based on low-ILUC-risk oil crops cultivated on marginal lands, without competing with food or feed production. Through a cascading valorisation approach, these crops will provide vegetable oils and residual biomass for high-value bio-based applications, including cosmetics, bio-stimulants, feed ingredients, herbicides, dielectric fluids, bioplastics and NIPU for vertical gardens.
By contributing to circularity, industrial competitiveness and regional development, RUNFASTER4EU supports CBE JU’s broader mission: to scale up bio-based solutions, reduce environmental impact and turn innovation into tangible benefits for Europe’s economy and society.
Through the development of innovative value chains, industrial-scale demonstration and the valorisation of sustainable oil crops, RUNFASTER4EU supports key EU priorities for a greener and more competitive bioeconomy.
A great reminder of how CBE JU-funded projects are turning innovation into real impact across Europe.
